Limericks

Limericks are one of my favorite kinds of poetry because they are often very humorous. They are really just short poems that you can enjoy at any point of time in the day. They don't take much effort to understand.

They are so simple to construct, all you have to follow is a simple five stanza rhyme scheme of AABBA. Which simply means the first two lines rhyme, then the third and fourth rhyme together, and the fifth rhymes with the first two lines.

Limericks were first used back in the 1800s, though an exact date and location is still debated to this day. Regardless of its origin, they are still so fascinating and fun. They make any moment of the day better.

Here are some examples:

There once was a boy named Josh,
Who often wished he was posh.
He dreamt of diamonds shining,
And all the finest dining.
But instead he eats goulash.

Have you heard of the girl called Fatima?
She likes to eat lots of ice cream-a.
She's also a thief.
She'd even pilfer a leaf.
What the hell else rhymes with Fatima?
